If you are just stopping by for the first time, life lessons is my take on well…..life lessons. Some I have mastered, the majority are a work in progress.
Life lesson of over keepsakes. For me this is a bit of a work in progress. My mother passed away longer than I care to admit now. My sister, niece and I went through clothes and jewelry and that was taken care of. I still have boxes of yarn, embroidery thread and dishes I am slowly working through and using. Every so often I do a purge and can get rid of a few more items of her’s that don’t have any special meaning for me just that she owned them.
It is the memories more than any of the items I have kept. Coming home from not meeting a friend at the theatre and mad because I wanted to see the show. Her saying “let me get my coat” and us heading back down for later show. Always being available to go have a coffee, listening to books on CDs together and of course doing crafts. These are my keepsakes more than the jewelry, yarn and dishes.
So make memories and don’t rush through conversations. Ask questions and listen, take pictures and share ideas/dreams. I had a friend find out her mother when she was dying had always wanted to take a cruise. It was sad as that was something they could have done – so ask questions and share your to do list. There might be an incredible memory waiting to happen there!
PS I am typing this on my desk – which is the linoleum/chrome kitchen table I grew up on so lots of memories here. Oh, and my favorite piece in my home.
You can always start now !
