A different kind of bar experience could you handle it?

I won’t deny it we have a lot of pubs in this city.  Microbreweries are all over the city and we even have a bus tour to a few of them. Yup.  In the interest of transparency I have been to a few. Okay, more than a few. But as a blogger research is everything – as you know.

Marketing or branding is important. There are tons of classes out there on how to brand yourself/blog/product. So of course Microbreweries are no different. That said, this brewery trying something different.

They are promoting silent reading with beer, books and smooth jazz.  But also no phones, no talking and no didgeridoos.

Do you think it is possible for people to go say an hour without checking their phone or talking? Just reading their books full stop.  I am intrigued by the idea – I haven’t tried it yet.  Reading is never a problem for me. Curling up with a good book is one of my favourite ways to escape.  In a bar? Well that would be a new experience.

What do you think? Could you do it? Not check your phone and just enjoy a good read, beer and some music?  Are you in?

You can always start now!

  1. This is a fantastic idea. I would love to visit this kind of place. It reminds me a bit of the old “gentleman’s clubs” with big leather chairs and fires blazing. Perhaps because “a room of her own” is still an idea that appeals to me, where we all have the time and space to create without distractions, also having a place where other people are, but where quiet and distraction are discouraged intrigues me. Now I need to see if there’s a place in my area that’s trying this.

    1. I will keep everyone posted as I think there is one this month. It is a micro-brewery with no big leather chairs and fires blazing! The concept appeals to me also, being with other people but quiet. Thanks for commenting and stopping by.

    1. I agree phones out only if waiting for news. Have a conversation with the person across from you! Sometimes I feel that is a novel idea. My rant for the day.

    1. I think it would be a neat experience. I know I would be sneaking looks at people to see what they were reading. That would be the hardest for me not asking “what are you reading!!!”.

  2. I am definitely in! I think it’s a great idea, I love reading, and sometimes get annoyed at being disturbed by a buzzing phone. It would be a great challenge for some people too.
And I totally agree, as a blogger research is everything. I’m holding on to this excuse!

    1. You go and research lots of places that I always enjoy reading about. Blogging has made me think differently “could this be a blog post?” who knows! Research needed.

  3. I don’t mind putting down my phone, but I do most of my reading at home. When I do go out, It’s usually to enjoy time with friends- I don’t need to go out of my way to drive into the city to not talk to anyone when I can easily do that at home haha. (On the topic of phones though, being in a long distance relationship my phone is the only way for me to stay in contact with my boyfriend. It’s not like a regular relationship where we have a ton of time together so a few hours without each other is no big deal- we have to work a lot harder to stay connected, and it’s frustrating when businesses especially crap on you for having your phone 🙁 )

    1. I can see your point with the phone and boyfriend would be nice to share where you are at and what you are doing. At least with this idea you are going knowing it is about reading and no phone. The place is near me – on bus route so I thought neat idea to put out there. Thanks for stopping by and commenting – neat to get people’s take on it.

  4. I could totally go an hour without checking my phone, but for me, having a glass of wine (sorry I don’t do beer!) is a social thing that involves chatting to friends. Thinking about it, I could probably have a drink and listen to the music, we did something similar in Dublin, but I usually like it to be quiet when I’m reading. Interesting idea though 🙂

    1. I enjoy a drink (coffee, wine or beer) with friends also. Thought the concept was interesting and worth checking out. Trying something new good idea and I always have a book on the go so no problem there!! Thanks for stopping by.

  5. I actually love this idea so much, think it would be such a nice feeling soaking up the words of a book whilst enjoying a beer. If you do decide to go, I’d love to hear what you think. I’m so intrigued by this place and I love what they’re trying to do. Far too often now in bars do you only see people on their phones.

    1. Hope to check it out in December. They also have fundraisers every so often where they pick a charity and $1 per beer goes to that charity. I guess anything to get you into the place, but it is a business. Yes will keep you posted. Will try and snap a few pictures if I can!!

  6. Hmm. This would be interesting to try. My husband would love it I think, beer and sitting quietly are both things he enjoys. He may balk at putting his phone away though, but he’s probably be willing to as long as he can read.
I love a good glass of wine or beer when I’m writing in the evening after the kids are in bed.

    1. Saw the Facebook ad and thought hmm…… so decided to put it out there. Idea interesting and worth checking out. Yes to a glass of wine in the evening and writing – lovely way to end the day.

  7. I never enjoyed going to bars, music too loud, people too loud so I can say yes I’d probably enjoy this experience. The phone would be no problem as I don’t have a cell phone by choice lol

    1. I am not into too loud either. If I can’t have a conversation I’m not interested in being there. Plan is to check out the next one in December and I’ll keep you posted. Good for you on the cell phone.

Would love to hear your ideas and thoughts!
