Quotes that lead to peace

You can always start now!
You can always start now!

I always have a journal going – not so much for daily entries but for notes on books I have read and quotes I want to keep.   I thought I’d share with a few quotes I have collected over the years from books, cards and friends.  Hope some of them speak to you.

“Everyone has the power for greatness, not for fame but greatness, because greatness is determined by service.”   Martin Luther King Junior.

“If you do not know where you stand within yourself, where does that leave you?  When you stand centered in your own space, it will become clear what your choices are and which ones to make.”

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”   Marcel Proust

“Accepting people does not mean agreeing with them, approving of them, waiving your own rights, or downplaying their impact upon you.  You can still take appropriate actions to protect and support yourself or others. Or you can simply let  people be. Either way, you accept the reality of the other person. You may not like it, you may not prefer it, you may feel sad or angry about it, but at a deeper level, you are at peace with it. That alone is a blessing. And sometimes, your shift to acceptance can help things get better”  Rick Hanson – Hardwiring Happiness.

“Freedom, fully appreciated only when it has been lost. One of the greatest struggles of mankind has been in the preservation of this gift.  Too many ideals, too much dogma, and too little understanding of the human spirit get in the way of this most basic right.  The rule for freedom’s grace is so simple. Harm no one.”

“Trust your hunches. They’re usually based on facts filed away just below the conscious level.”  Dr. Joyce Brothers

“Every exist is an entry somewhere.”

Sorry I don’t have authors for some.  It was a good experience for me to read my notes and reflect again on why I wrote these and other quotes down to begin with.  Thank you for being part of my journey.

  1. Great thing to do. Quotes can be very inspirational and good things to reflect on when the mood ebbs the wrong way. I’ve got a board on Pinterest for exactly that and often use them if I write posts on kindness and mindfulness. I might even try posts like this in the new year to remind me to stay on task and not flow in all directions. 🙂

    1. I have a Pinterest board on quotes also. Before that I wrote them in a journal. Yes to reflecting on them when the mood ebbs the wrong way. Sometime it can make all the difference and just the snap out of it you need.

      1. I must look into your boards then ? Although currently Susie is in control of my account to get my attempt shipshape lol

You’re dead right though, browsing inspirational quotes can really change a negative mood.

  2. I think the Rick Hanson quote is so important and relevant today. I also love writing down quotes, or even words or phrases that speak to me. I’m not so good about always doing it, but I have a new plan! I bought small bulletin boards and I’m going to write the quotes or words or phrases on sticky notes and put them there– I’m calling it my sparklet board, inspired by the spiritual practice of Floralegium.

    1. I love it – your sparklet board. Some days you just need a good quote to settle you or get you moving. Maybe get some different colored pens and use the color that speaks to you for that quote.

  3. “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”   Marcel Proust

Definitely my favorite. Being dismally bored at a rodeo once (not my kinda thing), I made the choice to try and see the sights through my friend’s eyes as she likes horses, cowboy folk and observing different cultural traditions. I instantly started to enjoy myself more. Seeing things in a new way has such value!

    Thanks for this great post.

    1. Definitely seeing through new eyes. Even in our own neighbourhood I think we often take beauty around us for granted. Sometimes it takes someone else to ahha us back. Like you did with the rodeo. thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Would love to hear your ideas and thoughts!
